Andrea was admitted to hospital this morning with a small bowel obstruction. She is in a lot of pain, despite lots of medication, and not up for visitation quite yet.

If you didn't already know, getting admitted to hospital with an obstruction pretty much guarantees you an NG tube (think plastic hose shoved up your nose, down your throat, and into your stomach). Nobody does well with those, and Andrea had an especially hard time. It took four attempts throughout the day; they finally had to use the smallest possible tube, normally used for pediatrics.

The nursing care at TMC is first rate and she is in good hands. Please pray for a speedy recovery and that no surgery will be called for. I will post again when I know more.

Thanks, especially to everyone who pitched in on such short notice to watch the kids and spend time with us.

Ryan

Hi all,

Andrea is still in hospital and her status really hasn't changed. She is still pretty miserable. She had to suffer about eight attempts to install an NG tube before it was finally successful. She is supposed to get some kind of test tomorrow that hopefully will help the doctors get an idea what is actually going on. There's not much more to tell than that; three days of constant pain and nausea, and not much to do but wait and keep doing tests. Please continue to pray for strength and perseverance. Andrea's a real trooper but this kind of continuous discomfort is extremely wearing.

Thanks for the generous outpouring of support to our family. The kids are handling it very well so far. Oh, for the days of being four or six and oblivious…

Hi all,

So we have good news and bad news.

The good news is that Andrea is feeling better. She pooped a couple days ago and has steadily been feeling less pain and nausea. She is now feeling up for visitors. She's pretty down still and could use some cheering up. She is in Room 705 at TMC (Northeast entrance).

The bad news, and part of why she's feeling discouraged, is that she isn't likely to be out until after Thanksgiving. The doctors recommended surgery because the underlying problem isn't resolved. She may have surgery this weekend, or it might be early next week (like Tuesday). We covet your continued prayers, especially that whatever the surgeons do will resolve her bowel issues for a very long time... for life would be good.

Thanks!

Ryan

Andrea's surgery was a success. They removed a section of her bowel that apparently was blocked with a mass of tissue; they took a biopsy so they can know what it is exactly. Her surgeon overall was very pleased with how everything went. Hopefully her system will start working relatively normally again.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers, kind thoughts, and support. She is back in her room at TMC and in a great deal of pain, but she's getting good care and trying to rest.

I'll let y'all know when she's back up for visitors.
