Latest Update from Kelsea's dad:
She was in surgery yesterday for about 9 hours. 6+ hours were working doing spinal fusions from T2 to L2, which I guess is the Thoracic and Lumbar sections of the spine [bottom 2/3; the C-part is the top 1/3]. 2+ hours were working on her hands, which have multiple fractures.
Her head suffered some major blows, but they don't think there will be any long-term problems from that, which her dad says is utterly miraculous based on his parents' description of the accident scene. Miraculous that she's alive; more miraculous that she made it through the accident without major brain injury.
She has 3 chest tubes managing the her collapsed lung, but on the whole they think her lungs are doing well and they're not having any trouble keeping her oxygen levels good.
One concern is that her heart rate is a little high, so they're trying to figure out if maybe she has some fluid around her heart. They've done some tests, but hadn't gotten results.
She had a pretty good night, all things considered and has been conscious when her sedation wears down a bit. Dad says she seems relatively lucid in those moments, but was trying to pull out tubes and so they're keeping her pretty sedated--for that and for the pain and trauma her body has suffered.
He says she is "guardedly stable" and he's hopeful that her life is not at risk at this point.
This morning at 7 he put his hand on her head and said he could "tangibly feel the prayers" which he said he knew were from Minnesota [family] and Arizona. So he said thanks to those of us who are praying.
She is at Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise if anyone wants to send her anything. They have a website with an online gift shop at http://www.saintalphonsus.org/ [the gift shop is under e-resources]. I'm not sure if she can get anything yet since she is still in ICU.
I'll keep you posted; keep praying. |
