Acoustic guitar based singer-songwritery:
Nick Drake (died in the 70s but left behind 3 very good albums--"Pink Moon" my favorite of the 3)
Indigo Girls...some fave albums: "Indigo Girls," "Indians, Nomads, Saints," and "Swamp Ophelia"
Joni Mitchell, "Blue"
Singer-songwriter intelligent pop music:
Crowded House (any of their CDs)
I love India Arie's album from a few years ago, "Acoustic Soul." The song "Video" went top 10, but the whole thing is great in my opinion. Folksy R & B.
Have you listened to any Suzanne Vega? Try any of her albums. "99.5" is edgy, industrial folk. Is "industrial folk" something that even makes sense?
Just about anything by Mary Chapin Carpenter or Lucinda Williams is awesome by me. And I assume you know Sufjan Stevens already.
OK, those are just some starting thoughts. |
