The first day of school is tomorrow! I hope it will be all the kids need it to be and that I can simply rest in God allowing me to slow down and let him take care of me. The past two weeks have been NUTS, so I'm exhausted and my back is actually starting to go out, but God is doing some awesome things - like Rod's surgery and Cheryl's laptop...so as a community, he is faithful and good, and tomorrow will be another day where that's true. Ok - just speaking truth to myself :)

Subject: prayer

Please pray for our faculty, staff and kids-
Last one of our teachers died. She had just had a baby and was on maternity leave. Her husband is also a teacher here. Her name was Melissa Lopez and her husband is Tom.
Also, a 15 year old student at Sunnyside High was shot and killed last night.
Our school is a mess, janitors were here at 4 this morning trying to get ready for the day anyways, and now all this.
Please pray that we can be a family and not try to just push on...thanks guys

Subject: You're gonna make it :-)

I prayed for you this a.m. as I was up at 5 getting ready for my own first day with kiddos. The best thing you can offer students when crises at your school happen, is the reassurance of your presence, a peaceful attitude. You can still be their teacher when life for them is chaotic. "It is well with my soul."
Also, I have a box of colored chalk for you, if you still need it.

Make that 9 boxes of white, 1 of yellow, and 1 of colored chalk. I told my coworker about your problem, and she's giving you her old, not-needed chalk.
Teachers are big-time hoarders, on the whole. But also generous hoarders ;-)

Thanks so much Karen!!! And Karen's co-worker!!! It's true, teachers are hoarders, but I so appreciate your generosity :)
And today was a good day. I'm utterly exhausted, feeling a little freaked out, but glad to be here.
