This was in today's Star:
Dear Tucson: I know you hurt and I know you are scarred by the events of Jan. 8.
Have no fear, this horrible event does not define you. It doesn't make you a bad place. It means that you are real and sometimes bad things... happen to great cities.
Tucson, you are a wonderful place. You have some of the finest people in the nation. Warm, friendly, open and giving. You are the land of the beautiful desert, terrific restaurants, magnificent golf, fabulous scenery, wonderful sunrises and gorgeous sunsets. Warm gentle breezes, street fairs and basketball. These are the things that define you. These are the things that make you special.
Those who haven't visited you are missing out on a lot. They should take a trip and see how terrific you are. I know I will be back soon and I can't wait! You are still one of my favorite places on earth.
