Thank you for responding to my blog Cheryl. You ask a great question. Unfortunately for me and Zollie we had to work one last Sunday. There was a misunderstanding when we would start our new schedule.
So, yes I did have to work on Sunday the 3rd of October. I found out Saturday morning from our asst. truck supervisor Eric Danjou. He tried to find replacements for us but couldn't. Sunday was a loooong day. I got up at 5 am again, arrived at the shop at 5:55 am and didn't get back until 10:45 at night.
Zollie and I were actually working on separate trucks that day. It seems 5 or 6 of our guys called in sick (or just hungover). My load was really messed up. Gerry, my driver that day (he and I wanted to be a team but Mr. Scott Leeds had different plans for me), and I weren't able to leave the shop until 11 that morning. We had 14 stops and they were all in Vail and Corona De Tucson.
Corona De Tucson is an area of Tucson near the intersection of Sahuarita Road and Houghton Road. Dirt roads everywhere you go! We weren't able to make our last two stops and they had to reschedule for another day. I'm the one who made the call to notify those customers by phone and they weren't too happy to get the news. The normal delivery time frames are 4 hours (i.e. 1pm til 5 pm). Imagine waiting for 4 hours for someone only to have them not show up.
I was exhausted when I got back to my house. When Gerry and I got back to the shop at 10:45 that night, we were told 2 more trucks were still out. One was Zollie's truck and another one belonged to Robert Vaughn. Gerry and I had to return 14 items that night because of the R/S (rescheduled stop) and various other reasons. We finally left for the day at 11:35 pm. I got back to the house at something like 12:15 in the morning on Monday. I was sooo exhausted.
I have started my new schedule now and am getting better sleep. I woke up this morning like I normally do, when I'm not working at 6 am, at 7:30 feeling quite refreshed. I had called Blanca at 4 on Sunday afternoon and gave her the news that I would not be able to make it to the Muse til 7:30 - 8 pm at the earliest if at all. She said she would spread the news.
I hope it was a good day for you. I'm not sure where I will be on Saturday October 9. There will be a beginner lindy hop swing lesson at the Muse at 8 pm and a showcase at the Arizona Ballroom Company (Grant and Craycroft intersection where Safeway is). It is free and open to the public.
The showcase will feature dance instructors and their students of various dances. These include tango, salsa, rumba, samba, merengue, foxtrot, waltz, Argentine tango, swing, cha-cha, and a few others. There will also be time for open dancing for those of us not in the showcase. It starts at 7 pm and it is free, free, free. Did I mention it was free? It's an awesome night. I went to one showcase in December of last year and I had so much fun at it, dancing and watching the performances. I've been learning various dances at the ballroom since September of last year. I hope to see some villagers there. If you would like more information on Arizona Ballroom Company you can call them at 290-2990 or check www.azballroom.com
Bye for now.
