OK Dave, I'll bite.
The last time I permed my own hair was in '91 and at *that* time, I was paying more than $35, which at the time, seemed reasonable considering it involved nearly 2 hours of labor. When you consider that the stylist has to pay rent on his/her space, or at least pay overhead expenses, not to mention pay for the chemicals (and the cheaper chemicals are even harder on your hair), I'm thinking you've been getting an unbelievable, riproaring deal for your perm if you got it done recently for $30.
How much would you charge someone for an hour and a half of taxicab driving? Just curious. (It's been years since I took a cab for more than a couple of miles.)
I don't know anyone who does home perms... But anyway, I think that if it's important enough to you, you'll be willing to pay a professional a reasonable, living wage to do your hair. Remember that the hair folks have to feed and clothe themselves too ;-)
I'm wondering, what would you have been willing to pay to get in to see TSO earlier this month? Apply that difference in your money to get your hair done again, if it's important to you. But if it's not important enough to you to pay for it, obviously this is a sign to you that it's time to try something different. And if that's the case, have fun deciding on a new 'do, and thank God that you still have hair to deal with ;-) |
