VESPERS OCT 31: Creative open house. Please bring your creative project for presentation. If you have any questions, give me a call (4448810). Heaven and Hell are not the point. Oh, sure I believe in Heaven and Hell, but if getting into heaven and staying out of hell is the ultimate mission of Christianity, then we have a serious problem. What if the point is the here and now!? What if we are really suppose to spend our time being blessed and blessing others? What if the Gospel is about bringing God’s Kingdom to earth? What if you don’t have to believe to get loved by the God’s people? Brian Mclaren, in his recent book, suggests that a religion in a pluralistic society is valued based on the benefits it brings to the nonadherents (nonadherents . . .those who don’t support or hold fast to the religion’s beliefs and practices.) If the point is the here and now, then my time becomes a very important thing. If our mission is to bless others with the love of Christ, then we might need to spend some time thinking about how we treat our neighbors . . . do you know your neighbors? If our actions bring the Kingdom of God to earth, then we should know exactly what is involved in Kingdom living . . . If being blessed by those who follow Jesus does not require having the same beliefs as they do, then a lot of Jesus followers are going to have to drop Judgment from the Christian virtue list.
