I recieved this email today: I found it rather offensive and thought you guys could respond to if you wanted. I already did . . .

I was searching for a song about Colossians and came across your composition. I was very disappointed. Honestly, brother... let's not put out poopy work and expect people to appreciate it because the words are good. It is embarassing.

David Larsen

Dave. Buddy.

The song was written for the kids in our community, to help them remember the story, remember the lesson of the scripture. I don't believe anyone in this community ever writes or composes anything with marketability in mind. A small break would be appreciated.

Take a course in Encouragement and get back to whatever it is you do best. Please.

David Larson,

When you encounter something you don't like you have several options for response: (1) You can ignore what you have just seen/heard and forget it, (2) you can wrestle with it and chose to reject it - quietly, (3) you can address the issue with the appropriate person respectfully, and (4) you can address the issue with the approprate person with insult. Somewhere in that list we would also find such things as slander and gossip.

In the end we are all responsible for our actions, as well as for our words. Among brothers and sisters in Christ criticism should be constructive and helpful, not destructive and hurtful. When we speak (e-mail) to one another we should keep in mind whom we represent and whom we serve. I am convinced that if God had found our composition of this song embarrassing or too poorly made, He would have convicted us of that fact.

I am sorry our song does not meet your standard. Perhaps you could find a better way to put the Scipture to music. As for us, it works, and we have grown rather fond of the tune. Feel free to be sorry for your reaction to it.

Respectfully and sincerely

Patricia

My response would simply be:

Ouch.

Oh, anyway.

It seems like just another example of the weird-o pattern spiritual attack stuff we've been dealing with.

Just stand firm, people :-) Maybe that's why God gave Rod his knees back.

I was offended someone dare write an e-mail to eric like this one, and was going to respond to it. Then I thought about it. Responding to him is a waste of time. Critics like this guy exsist. They do nothing to further the Kingdom, yet are quick to point out what they see as wrong tactics, or substandard work. Ignore him.

David;
I'd like to invite you to join us in worship at 5pm this, or any Sunday. If you'd like, I'll be happy to meet you earlier in the afternoon and show you where we meet. It is my prayer that you found the set of lyrics you were hunting for, and God was able to use them in the setting in which you're ministering. As for us, we're pretty satisfied in simply quoting Scripture - in this case verses 2 and 3, and later in the song verse 15 of Colossians - and putting some music to it. I believe the Lord loves to hear His own words sung back to Him/and at the Village we believe that the Bible is His word. Please feel free to share with us the song you came up with. If you do decide to take me up on my offer to come and be a part of what we do, maybe we could work your song into our worship set. God bless you.
