To the Village,

Sunday: new and notes
Important:
- The following people have sign up to cook Chicken: 1)Adrienne 2)Blanca 3)Aaron Cromer 4)Ginger 5)Layne 6) McCulley Family 7)Susan Park 8)Cepins
I am going to work my way down this list. So, this week, Adrienne you are up. I hope to have the chicken delivered to you by Friday. Note: Please do not cook the chicken in milk, butter, or tomato sauce - we have people who are allergic to these products. With these considerations in mind, you may cook the chicken anyway you like. Once it is cooked, you will need to cut it into little pieces to be put into he salad.
- Villagers - if you would like to bring something to add to the meal on Sunday - feel free to do so. For example: you might bring a few bags of rolls.
- Cost comparison: We regularly spend 80 - 100 dollars on pizza a week. The salad cost us 25 dollars and is much healthier.

Financial Info:
Giving report: $12,733 for the month of June

Mission
We have talked a lot about how you and I are Ministers of Reconciliation(MoR), and how we are ambassadors of the Gospel to each other and the world. Fleshing this idea out can be difficult, but I think that when we look at how Jesus, and then Paul, moved into their worlds proclaiming the Gospel - we find men who where in the world offering kindness and truth to those who wanted it and those who didn't. I think that some of us feel like we need to get it all together before we offer things to people outside of our community . . . or for that matter inside our community. Having your life in order is overrated, and the truth is that none of us do. When you and I spend time with our neighbors, co-workers, and friends we are in a place to offer Christ - but that means we often have to do these things with intention. We have to choose to put ourselves in the world and ask our community to support us. We are all missionaries, and it is incumbent on us to identify the different areas in our lives that are specific places of mission. We need to ask our community to pray for us, and keep us accountable to staying in those places. I think it is important for us to see ourselves as people who bring the kingdom to bear on the people and places we are engaged.

There are some different ways you can be involved in mission in Tucson: If you are single - go join one of the Tucson single activity groups. If you like hiking - join a hiking club. If you are into reading - find a secular reading group that meets at a bookstore. If you are in college - find a campus group that isn't Christian and join it. If you are a musician - join local band. The idea is simple - we have to stop hanging out in our fortified city and move out into the community. I know that all of us are busy, and we all have different life obligations that make these kind of things difficult - but part of being a MoR is we must begin to center our life around mission. This concept is not just limited to us as individuals, but is also true for the village as a community. The question of where and how does the Village involve itself in mission is important. We need to not only be in dialogue with each other - we must also find our voice in the larger community. We have talked a lot about getting a building and the things we can do in a building, but if we are not doing those things at some level now, we won't do them when we have a building.

Happenings at the Village

This Saturday:
1) Baby shower for Andrea and Ryan - the party starts at 2pm and ends at 4pm. It will take place at the Parks Apartment complex(Fountain Plaza Apartments Club house) 2345 N. Craycroft.

July 15
1) Social Justice Movie Night at the Crawfords - the movie(City of God) starts at 6pm - Location: 606 N. Benton Ave. (sign-up - Ryan, Andrea, Karen, Dennis, and Eric)
Plot Synopsis: Cidade de Deus (City of God) is a housing project built in the 1960's that--in the early 80's--became one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro. The tale tells the stories of many characters whose lives sometimes intersect. However, all is seen through the eyes of a singular narrator: Busca-Pé, a poor black youth too frail and scared to become an outlaw but also to smart to be content with underpaid, menial jobs. He grows up in a very violent environment. The odds are all against him. But Busca-Pé soon discovers that he can see reality differently than others. His redemption is that he's been given an artist's point of view as a keen-eyed photographer. As Busca-Pé is not the real protagonist of the film--only the narrator--he is not the one who makes the decisions that will determine the sequence of events. Nevertheless, not only his life is attached to what happens in the story, but it is also through Busca-Pé's perspective of life that one can understand the complicated layers and humanity of a world, apparently condemned to endless violence.

2) The Game - Evangelon - 2pm - There are six slots - Caleb and Jesse have sign-up so far. If you are interested in playing, please email me. The game will start at 2pm sharp.

July 21
A message from Kim Cromer: There will be a Godly Play presentation by friends of ours from Phoenix on Friday night, July 21st at 6 pm. It will be at our house, and Eric has offered to watch all (!) our kids at the Seneca House. You can drop your kids off at 5:30 pm and we will be done by 8:30 pm. Our friend, Darren Cummings, has taught a modified version of GP in Phoenix for the last 3 years. During the first two, his group was using a borrowed building and started much like we are. This last year, he has been teaching it in Sunday school. He can answer our questions and/or give us ways to make our path easier! We can order pizza if everyone wants to bring $5 or so! Hope you can make it! Kim Cromer—440-7647—call if you need directions….(This meeting is open to anyone who is interested in helping with children. If you are a parent, it would be good for you to go.)

**July 22**
Epistemology Lecture: ( The branch of philosophy that studies the nature of knowledge, its presuppositions and foundations, and its extent and validity.)
Ron Layman, our resident expert 8>), will be giving us an introduction to epistemology, and answering our questions about how we can know he exists. The lecture will take place at 8pm at his house. There will be a sign-up sheet available on Sunday.
