Like an old sock that’s kept as a rag
He hasn’t found his pairing
Poor choices in life
have made him a tattered soul
Like an old sock that is kept as a rag

It still has some use, so it seems
Shave the shabby shorts a little shorter
and shove them into the basket
You can still use them
for painting and gardening

How can salt lose its savor?
People, like things, regardless of how spent
Are rarely good for nothing
but to be trampled underfoot
Like an old sock that’s kept as a rag

Although marked for destruction
It has redeeming qualities
It will absorb into geologic cycles
and be inspired by the life of soil, plant
and some other beautiful soul.

Cool poem Dennis,
I dig the laid-back way you use poetic device,
repitition of the chorus line, random rhymes (and slants), alliterations,
good images. I didn't know you wrote poetry. Or is this an early attempt to start? Either way, I like it. :)

Thanks Derek, for your feedback. Your dad liked it too. I guess you could call it "an early attempt to start" but it's more like something i've always wanted to do and just felt inspired enough to act on it one recent lazy Sunday morning.
