Dear VillageFolk,
Here is a Midi file of a Bach Chorale from St Matthew's Passion that I'd like to sing with any interested Villagers: http://www.classicalarchives.com/bachchor.html#passion. You may have to register (a free service) to download this instrumental only version. It's [MIDI] #117 - Nun ruhen alle Walder [0:54]. It is also known by the title "O Welt, sieh hier dein Leben." (Pat can translate that for us!)
I need four to eight singers to join me in doing this.
It is a short sweet Good Friday theme piece with great harmony for quartet. It's only about 3 min long with both verses. I'm in the process of making cassette tapes with the four individual parts (SATB) and the 4-part piano part on them. Here are the lyrics.
O world, thy life_ is end-ed,
High on_ the cross sus-pend-ed,
Today the_ Sav-ior died.
The Lord of_ all_ cre-a-tion,
In_ shame and deg-ra-da-tion,
Was scourged, re-viled and_ cru-ci-fied.
The sorrows thou_ art bear-ing,
With none_ their bur-den shar-ing,
On me they_ ought to fall.
The tor-ture Thou_ art feeling,
Thy_ patient love revealing,
‘Tis I_ that should en-dure it all.
There's a rehearsal for the new band singers and for others who are interested in singing this chorale tomorrow at Steve & Ann's house at 9am. Pat W will be there and maybe Rod H since he's interested in singing the bass part for the above chorale(!) and I've got his tape ready. Anyway if you can make it then, even tho' such short notice, give me or Ann a call and we can go over your part.
