I thought I'd share with you a message that I emailed to chiefs at Mazda and Burlington Coat Factory, sponsors of "The Book of Daniel," a new TV show I hadn't planned to watch but I happened to tune in.
Please ask the producers to tone down the dysfunctionality of the characters in “The Book of Daniel” which you sponsor. I think it’s okay to portray Christians as people with the same struggles and bad choices that others have, but this show exaggerates the extent and frequency of these behaviors in us. The offensive part to me is the socio-political agenda behind it, i.e., that they’re trying real hard to misrepresent and discredit us.
If you choose to keep sponsoring the show, know that it makes us look more foolish than we are already believed to be; so the show’s credibility is at stake. It is very obvious to the viewer that the producers are being unfair in their portrayal of Christ followers in general.
On the positive side, I think it is good that Jesus is portrayed as a jovial and graceful fellow and that the pastor’s relationship with Him is so real. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
Sincerely,
Me |
