My second year teaching, I was teaching on Toltec Road, near Casa Grande, a place frequented by I-10 traffic and tumbleweeds caught in the dust devils. I had a very small mentally retarded boy named Michael in my class. One day, a tiny, pale scorpion suddenly dropped from the ceiling tile directly onto his desktop. He remained in his seat, transfixed and smiling with curiosity, while everyone else stood up and created safe distance. I was on the far side of the room and saying, "Michael, DON'T MOVE" as I came closer to try to kill it but in a split second, one of the "troublemakers," a boy named Andy, grabbed a book and crushed it. Gone, baby, gone.
That was a great insight how the "troublemakers" can really come in handy. It was cool how God used Andy to protect a more vulnerable student. Thanks again, Andrew Guerrero! (If you ever read this....) |
