Cheryl, thanks for writing in. I can't tell you how to love your enemy, because I know that I am really bad at it and all I can do is ask God to change that in me. But I do know how tough it is to have any kind of hope for your family, and I will be praying that the Spirit will come to you and help you to hope when you need it.
I also just want to offer to you how much my own parents have changed since I became Christian. I know that they definitely aren't coming from the same starting point that yours are, and they are certainly not perfect now by any means, but God has done so many things in their lives and in our relationships that I am just totally amazed when I look back over the last three and a half years and compare what they used to be like when I was a kid with where they are now. I know that this is not any kind of proof, and God has different intentions for each family, but I just thought I would offer up my own testimony as a potential source of hope that God can change the hearts even of people who don't believe in Him or follow His way. |
