Subject: Last night

Response to a long sleepless night alone in the quiet hours, meditating on God and the day past. A poem written at 2am this morning in bed at Hotel Congress. I have tasted too much sweet life, to mingle again in darkness. Like oil and water, I am with the world. The allure of escape, the defamation of the sacred, the appeal of being “in” They have lost their luster…. Thus, I do not “fit.” Integrity and loyalty to something bigger has captured me -- A larger picture, a grander story, something beyond imagination. The consequences of playing in the shadows are too great. I have tasted the pleasures of the world; I have experienced its path; I have found something much more powerful and abundant. I know true freedom and have tasted the truth. It is like pure honey to my lips and ecstasy to my soul – Indescribable, beyond compare, foreign to this world. Thus, I am an alien to this place called life. And the choice remains ever before me; I can see it so clearly; better than I ever have. Strength beyond myself is needed to live as light in this darkness.
