Subject: Holidays 2 Poem
I do not want to remember,
Doing life moral inventories,
Chronologies on how I felt about my body,
The memories are so spacey,
More and more separation without the nightmares.
I do not want to remember.
I do not want to talk about it.
I do not want to know.
Can’t it all go away?
The lie comes so sneaky:
"It did not really happen,"
"Nothing happened, it is all untrue."
Where is the balance?
Remembering what God has done
Believing the truth of the past,
But not living there, living in the present.
Where is the balance?
This Celebration upon us,
If I do not participate,
I admit the past, the nightmares, the memories.
I say it is true.
I say I am still wounded by this past horror
That things really did take place.
Why cannot I say it does not affect me?
It is an innocent day like it is for everyone else?
Why cannot I destroy the memories
And not have them have power over me?
Why could not have God completely healed me? |
