Patricia: Hi (8/19/05)
Hello Villagers Online,
I'm Robert and familiar to some of you. I am a friend and former housemate of Dennis Bonilla and (w)Ron(g) Wyman. Jeff and Emily know me as well as Cheryl who I used to work with. I used to go to the FBSE bible study years ago.
I live out near Marana High School (Boony land) in Avra Valley. I had brain and heart surgeries in 2001 and have assorted other medical issues.
I was on the phone last night with Dennis when I had a question about why the logo of the Villagers looks like Jesus is on the Cross plummeting towards the Sun. He told me in exasperation that I should join the community of bloggers and ask myself so I did.
Obviously the Crucifix hurtling towards the Sun is to make the V in Villagers but if the Circle was the Earth it would make more sense as God became incarnate and was with us to redeem and save us from sin (and ultimately ourselves) and to restore fellowship with Him.
Also whenever I see the Capital One commercial on TV I think of the Villagers Online as they are Pillagers pillaging which is a contrast to the way of Christ.
In essence I simply want to say hello in the name of Christ.
:0)

Nice to meet you.

FBSE is still happening. Jeff and Emily have details.

Um. I'm confused about the last paragraph of your blog. Help?

Trizia

Trizia,
It's more of a rhyming play on words. Pillagers ransack and do all sorts of bad things where villagers are the ones trying not to be ransacked. In the light of Christ as a group dedicated to God the Villagers of villagers online would be the opposite of the Pillagers. It has to do with the long running series of Capital One and their Credit Card offers and how if you choose them you won't get attacked by credit card companies with obscenely high rates.
I enjoy the commercials. They make me laugh.
Don't worry Dennis didn't understand it either but he doesn't watch much TV or commercials in general. With my medical problems I spend a great deal of time in bed battling migraines which makes reading difficult.

I think the logo background is actually the inescapable radiance of our Lord, caught in the act of infusing Himself gloriously into this round colorless world, using His light and might to pillage the very depths of darkness from the souls of men like me who would more naturally use His name falsely though quite easily. It catches him on a downward swoop.

Of course, I may be wrong. I wasn't there when they designed it. What do you think, Trizia?

Keith,
Dennis tells me that you are singing the Shaker tune. It was great. Could you tell me if you know the original title of that Shaker tune?
Also why the name "Skeptic Chickens"? I have a guess as to its' meaning but I don't want to presume. I suppose a chicken that's skeptic is better than being septic.

I came up w/the name, and it apparently stuck by default.

1) We're a bit on the skeptical side, the four of us. Keith & Karen much more skeptical than Russ and Sue....or so I think...
2) We have the tendency to chicken-dom ("being yella"), although we fight against it. Right, y'all?
3) It's incongruous: do chickens (taken literally) think enough to be skeptical?
4) I like the sound of it. It's got a goofy ring to it and (speaking of ring) doesn't sound like a hand bell choir, that's for sure.
5) Don't think too hard about it: just a name ;-)

Anyone else of the 4 can certainly weigh in, or the Village en masse can give their two cents (X 20 or so = a 12 ounce Coke, which I could use right now as a pick-me-up)

Robert, welcome to the Village. Your name is my name too. I thought about the John-Jacob Jingelheimerschmidt song but realized it only works with your name being my middle name. "His name is my name too."

As for the symbol, yea, I really don't get it either. I've heard from some people that when they see it that they think we (the Village) must be a demonic cult or something. As Pastor Eric says (our symbol) allows us to have a good starter for a conversation more than superficial in depth. Thanks for asking and signing on to our website.

Thanks for your blogs describing yourself. My stepmom Janis also has a hard time with her migraines. She loves to read (when she can). I will be praying for your relief of your migraines.

Welcome
James R. McCammon II (james)

I'm a big fan of commercials too. I have what some say is an unhealthy memory for TV shows and commercials. Some say it's because of this that I have a short attention span. ... what was I talking about? :-)

Thanks James.
I haven't heard that song in a long time. I used to work with kids (over ten years ago now that I think about it). It's a fun song and thinking about it I may need to download it.
It was great meeting you on Sunday and now if I can only remember you. Pardon me if I forget and need to ask your name again. That goes for many people. When I had brain surgery I think they took too much or not enough as Ron thinks (he thinks I need a lobotomy but consider the source).
Consider it a synapse collapse which is a line I accomodated/assimilated from Benji.

Having suffered the very first in a long line of these ruinous episodes, and subsequently having been the initial coiner of the resulting expression, it is I, the Keith of Seneca, who claim ownership of the phrase "Synapse Collapse" as well as all other associated idioms and such.

All apologies. It perfectly describes my brain during those moments of confusion when I can't remember what I was thinking and my train of thought derails.
Consider it borrowed and assimilated. Resistance is futile.
It would make a great name for a band.
