O.k., I moved it off the front of the website because no one else can post in that section. So Benji, why wasn't it funny?

Eric

I don't see what would be funny. Its a guy getting interviewed about his confusion with the bible. It then cuts to bad (in my option) christian music. I assume the joke is that they have similar hair. Am I to take it that they are supposed to be the same person. If so does the conversation in which nothing really happens lead the man to singing christian music or is it really his desperate attempt to escape a bad interview.

No matter how I look at it I'm not finding the funny.

Now that I've explained why it's not funny, I'd like to know why you think it is. ;-)

The video is funny to me on several levels. First, I thought it was poking fun at beach evangelism and how strange it is. Second, the song was halarious, it reminded me of the many conversations I've had with potheads down or 4th. Third, I thought it was also poking fun at every good evangelical, whose desire is to convert everyone into Ray Boltz (I know that this is not the hope of every evangelical, but since I have 25 years of data(my life), I pretty sure a lot of them do). I grew up listening to and worshiping the ground that Ray walked on. I thought he was so cool, and he was cool :=). Lastly, I enjoy when someone pokes fun at my past. It brings me back to a kinder gentler time when uncomfortable street evangelism and bad big hair eighties bands were the cool thing. I have plenty of friends who would probably be offended by the video, and you didn't find it funny, but Sue I couldn't stop laughing. The video was making fun of me, and I loved it.

Eric

P.S. If you feel like I should take it down, I would have no problem doing so.

I thought that it was funny in the painful, watching-a-car-crash sort of way. The guy on the beach was bad, and the Christian music video afterwards was even worse...

By no means take it down. I appreciate it for it's context now. Outside of Eric and Sue the video has no funny for me. (yes that includes the rest of the whole entire world)

I'll chalk this one up to a "you had to be there" kind of funny.

Thanks Benji for posting your opinion that this wasn't funny. I thought it might be that I'm from an older generation that I came away wondering why someone wasted their time putting it all together into a video. At least now I know that it's not an age issue, just a matter of different senses of humor. I'm glad that Eric and Sue had laughter in their day!

...Since this internet video stuff all gets blocked from the school website, all I get to see is a blank space. Which is definitely not funny.

as I was thinking about the funniness or not funniness of this little video, I was reminded of the movie "Saved" with mandy moore in it. and I thought about how to me, it was pretty funny and I was able to laugh at parts that actually offended some people because I had experienced the growing up in a Christian home and going to Christian school all my life and people acting really spiritual when they're really actually judgmental and whatever else.

so, has anyone else seen this movie or have thoughts?? I definitely didn't like all of the movie or whatever...... but I mean, is it bad that I laugh at stuff like that? where the theology and message are so messed up, and yet is something that I and many others have experienced, and it can actually really offend some people?

if you haven't seen the movie, a scene that would be an example of the movie is Mandy Moore's character literally throwing a Bible at her "friend" that she is upset at while shouting, "but I am FILLED with the love of Christ!"

The beachbum pothead guy actually does make a good point about Noah's Ark. I have often wondered what the animals were eating during those 40 days and nights. Hmmm....it was oddly entertaining, although not laugh out loud funny to me (sorta like Fruits Basket, Benji)... I struggled in vain to make out the detail on the evangelist's Jesus t-shirt.
