This will be the official open invitation to all to come join us every (or nearly depending on complications in our schedules) Thursday night downtown at Cinema La Placita for the outdoor movie. They show old movies on a big screen. Cinema La Placita is located in the colorful (purple, orange, etc.) buildings off of Congress and Church downtown. In side the courtyard is where the movie is shown. The movie is free but a $3 donation is appreciated to keep the program up and running each summer.

This week's movie is 1776...hope it's good.

If you need further directions, give us a jingle! Andrea

This was one of a few reel-to-reels that got regular play in our house when I was a young-un. It's not the schmaltzy, Rogers-and-Hammerstein type of musical, but is full of arch (and some earthy) humor, and it really humanizes those guys on our greenbacks. My favorite lyrics include, "May my wife refuse my bed if I can't deliver as I said, resolution of independency!"

I won't be there (otherwise committed), but if you end up at La Placita this week, afterwards, why don't you walk a few blocks over to Congress to see us play? :-)

I saw this movie on a field trip in high school, I found it to be pretty silly (perhaps due to the boatload of weed my comrades and I smoked before the movie...hey, it was the '70's! Don't try this at home, kids...). From what I recall the guy playing Ben Franklin did a good job (Howard DaSilva?) So, enjoy this little slice o' history, skip the boatload of weed, and come see Buckshot Blu at 7 Black Cats after the flik!

That line seems to cover a multitude of sins, like the intensely burgundy bell bottoms I wore with my intensely gold sneakers back in '75, and the fact that my 3rd grade teachers created a music "program" with all of us students singin' along to songs like "The Night Chicago Died," "S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night," and "YMCA" (Who could have known that that gay anthem would be embraced as a folk standard, along w/"We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions"?)

This thought is inspiring me to post another blog. Not everyone at the Village is old enough to respond, but maybe somebody will...
