Recently I got a job cleaning a chapel on the campus of Eastern Michigan University...it's about a 15 minute drive from our condo. The chapel is really cute. It has a chapel, a few classrooms, an office, a storage space, kid space, and other such normal church places...and a kitchen and fellowship room, of course. It also has a large gathering space as you enter with couches and cozy places to gather and talk. I have often thought how it would be the perfect place for The Village. It's hardly used....I only have to do a good clean once a week. It just seems like a Village space. The other day I was cleaning the bathrooms and I started envisioning away the ugly baby blue walls with yellow stall doors and imagine bright colors with poems and verses and art plastered all over the walls. I envisioned a church filled with art and beautiful colors and a warm prayer room to offer ourselves to Jesus. The empty couches were filled with imaginary villagers sipping coffee and saying things like, "What does that look like? and How can we walk into our identity". It was a beautiful vision that I can't describe well in words.
For the first time I realized the great need The Village has for a space of our own. A place where art takes over and the ugly church colors are replaced with beautiful paintings of grace and truth. A contemporary and revolutionary place where we bring our friends...a place that we're proud of.
It's unfortunate David and I can't be there to help with the fundraising. But I want to send my encouragement and my prayers to you. Villagers, this is such a great opportunity to raise money and begin building something that's ours...well that's ours in the Lords Earth. :) or something like that. I love what is happening there and I long to be part of it.
I am sure your planning meetings and preparations are far more encouraging than a small note on a webpage....but this is HUGe and I really think we should own this opportunity and long for a space that's ours.
So go and be your loving and amazing selves with all your amazing art that I brag to all my friends about here in Ann Arbor. Enjoy this experience and tell me all about it later.
I love and miss you all!!!!! |
