Okay... here's my thought for the day:
Whatever happened to Carnation Breakfast Bars? They quietly went off the market when I was a teenager, and now there's no way to acquire their malty, chocolatey goodness. Sigh. What's a pregnant lady with comfort-food cravings to do?

I used to love those. Are they really gone?

I was reading in "Fast Food Nation" about these taste factories in New Jersey somewhere. Vast wearhouses filled with people in white lab coats frantically sniffing their latest chemical concoctions. (Apparently they have very refined sniffers and they're all very secrative about the whole thing). They've managed to conjure up such exotic dishes as "cheeseburger frying with onions" in these little test tubes. Close your eyes, take a whiff and you are there. Crazy huh? Reminds me of that scene from "Willi Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" when they give them the Gobbstoppers that taste like 5 course meals...porkchops, mashed potatoes, and blueberry pie!!

Maybe they weren't so far off. So Sue, odds are that the exact chemical recipe for your long-lost breakfast bar resides in some vault adjacent to the New Jersey Turnpike. Weird.
