clrclady: Great Collage (7/25/05)
Last week God and I were talking about the longings of my heart, and how He wanted to meet them. I think I tried to convince him that this was not a good topic of conversation, but he was unmoved.
This is another in my line of ambivalent core concepts. I've heard so many people (primarily women) talk about their "hearts" in ways that I just don't connect with. Like it was a metaphor that just didn't fit me. (For one thing, I always felt emotions somewhere in my abdominal area, not in my chest).
So I went on a hunt through the Bible and actually found a great deal on the heart that seemed surprisingly human and wholistic. Shoulda guessed. From my brief word search, it looks like the biblical concept has the heart as the seat of emotions, but also as the place from which motivation springs. It's the core of what drives us toward good or evil. We can have a pure heart or a wicked heart, a soft or hardened one.
Anyway, I wrote out what longings I was aware of and came to see that I often hotly pursue the more surfacey ones and all but ignore some of those about which I am deeply passionate. I guess the surface longings seem more attainable and less frightening.
In my process of considering these things, I decided to create a little collage as a meditation. It represents some of my longings: walking into light, being connected with people, having free time, enjoying my coming baby, articulating truth by painting & writing music, dwelling in calm.... Here it is:

Thanks for sharing Sue. That is a great collage. I love watching you connect more to your heart. It has been a delight to see as you connect and baby is coming. You truly are a beautiful woman and awesome one with a great identity that pours out in many things.
