Okay... I know you've all been on the edge of your seats waiting to find out how this would all end.
The jury clerk had said that whoever finished the massive puzzle in the corner of the room could go home. I didn't believe it was in her power to make this happen, but I also felt like it was my job to help God along if the opportunity was there. So I sat down at the table and helped two other timidly hopeful ladies to piece together this landscape. I informed the clerk, who responded, "I lied!" I wasn't surprised, but told her it was worth asking.
Half an hour later she called my name as part of the group that was being excused for the day. There were no more trials for the category of jurors I was in.
Departing at 10:45 with great joy (and much thanksgiving), I was met by a perfect, sunny day downtown. I was tempted to linger in the area, taking in the breezes and the outdoor public spaces; however, since my underwear was still soaked with coffee, I decided to go home. TMI?
I spoke with the realtor for 1927 E. Grant (the old Schroeder's piano place). He said that because of the limited parking, the city would only allow a very specific type of business to move in. So I called the realtor for the restaurant next door. $460,000. The thing is, we would need the Schroeder's place or both, but not just the restaurant. The restaurant has ample parking, though, which would resolve the problem next door. The 2 together would total $775,000. Hmmm... we don't have 3/4 of a million at the moment, but we'll get back to you next week.
What I'm wondering now is if the restaurant owner would be willing to sell the lot she owns behind the shopping center and if the city would recognize that lot as parking for the piano place (soon to be Village place. Or not). So that's the next phone call. I wonder what God has for us. |
