Suki: Update (5/10/05)
So, I found out a couple of days ago that I have a cyst on my brain. I've been having a lot of migraines since I got pregnant, and one of them has left what seems to be a permanent blind spot of sorts. So I was sent in for an MRI last week.
I don't know what to think about this yet, or whether or not it's even serious. The cyst is on top of my brain, not IN it, which is good. And it's fluid filled, not solid, which is also good (it's not a tumor). But it does seem to be putting pressure on the visual processing center, which concerns me. And it's fairly large (7 cm across).
The next steps will be some more testing and a visit with a neurosurgeon to see if anything needs to be done in the near future about this thing.
I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

For those of you interested in brain cystology, here's the latest. I got my MRI report today and found out that the cyst is located over the top of my brain on the left hemisphere, "involving the left middle cranial fossa and extending into the sylvian fissure and overlies the left frontal lobe". It sounds like it's about 3-4 cm deep, so it's pushing my brain toward the right and putting pressure on the optic nerve.
It's probably an arachnoid cyst, which means it formed out of the arachnoid membrane around the brain and may have been there since I was born. I'm not sure why it's having an impact now when it didn't before....
Anyway, I should hear from the neurosurgeon within a couple of days to schedule an appt, and I think seeing him will be clarifying.

Thanks for all the prayers & support.
I have an echocardiogram scheduled for this Friday.
It looks like the neurosurgeon appt won't happen until June 29, so I've some waiting around to do. Maybe it's a good sign that he's in no big rush to see me.
