Here is a link to a short survey that asks questions to determine your learning style. There are four possible learning styles and most people prefer more than just one method of learning. The four possiblities are Visual, Auditory (listening), Reading/Writing, and Kinesthetic (doing/practicing).

Test link:
VARK Questionnaire

I think the results are interesting because you could apply them to things like how you prefer to interact with other people. For instance, I had a very low Aural (listening) score, and a very high Kinesthetic score. This doesn't mean I CANT listen, it just means I prefer other methods of learning. So what works for me is that I can listen best (and talk best) if I am also doing something at the same time, like walking with the person I'm listening to.

Here are my overall results. I just cut and pasted from the other site.

Your scores were:

* Visual: 6
* Aural: 0
* Read/Write: 3
* Kinesthetic: 10
You have a strong Kinesthetic learning preference.
Use the following helpsheets for study strategies that apply to your learning preference:

kinesthetic

visual

My scores were

* Visual: 3
* Aural: 4
* Read/Write: 5
* Kinesthetic: 8

That's funny, because I always thought of myself as solely kinesthetic in my learning style. Partly because I thought that writing things out was a kinesthetic function. But I realize now that I also tend to read and discuss to figure things out as well. Hmm.

You have a multimodal (VARK) learning preference.

I read the links to the other helpsheets and the only one I really understood quickly was the Visual. The others were annoying to me. I wonder if that's significant? I remember my notes in college. They looked like illuminated manuscripts. I had a hard time learning if there weren't drawings all over everything.

"You have a multimodal (VARK) learning preference
One interesting piece of information that people with multimodal preferences have told us is that it is necessary for them to use more than one strategy for learning and communicating."

and

"If you have a strong preference for learning by Reading and Writing (R & W) learning you should use some or all of the following:"
...
"To make a learnable package:
• Organize any diagrams, graphs ... into statements, e.g. "The trend is..."
• Turn reactions, actions, diagrams, charts and flows into words."

-- when I learned the multiplication table I memorized it like a poem. You have probably heard me mumble something like "fuenf mal acht is vierzig, sechs mal acht is achtundvierzig, sieben mal acht is sechsundfuenfzig...". Still reciting. After all, I'm headed back for math class.

At the bottom of the page for reading/writing it said this:

"You like this page because the emphasis is on words and lists."

Ha-ha-ha :D

I do. I printed it out...

I think this tells me that I'm fairly flexible in ways I can learn stuff. I don't know if it applies to my learning from pastors that are non-sequitor though ;-)

Well, this was expected. It is interesting that read/writing is not my thing, but I have journaled so much in my life. It is very interesting. I think I need to do a visual journal instead, like Sue.

what a great idea, Cheryl!

Sue's journal IS contagious.

You do draw word pictures with your poetry, though...

Cheryl,

With a score of 8 out of 10 on the aural part that would tell me that you have a great listening capacity. I wonder how many times you have had to use this aspect in your workplace. I would agree that you are a good listener from what I know of you so far.

That read/write score does confuse me also in regard to you writing that you've journaled so much in your life.

Thanks for uploading your results.
