I would like to have a second chance on my explanation on the BBQ dinner last Sunday. This year has marked a dramatic change in my life, compared to the past several years. Yet this is not all about the change or changes, as much as it is about the sovereignty of God- coupled with the sufficiency of my need and dependency on God. Put another way. Is God sufficient for me, no matter the circumstances and events I am facing?
This is what I was so very emotionally unable to get across to you all last Sunday. Over the last several years, I have been living with circumstances and events that were moving me into a downward economic spiral, as well as a physically debilitating condition.
In 2007, I had a heart attack, and thee stints placed. In 2008, my arthritis became so severe that normal activities such as sitting, walking, and lying down were extremely painful, and took great effort and time to accomplish, and would only last for a short period of time. I actually look back on this downward cycle starting in early 2002. Since leaving my job and starting out on my own, I have had adversity thrown from all directions.
Is God sufficient enough for me? An easy question to ask, yet not an easy one to answer. It seems that in the pages of the Bible, a common theme is carried out time and time again. When God confronts humans, it seems like God often makes life very difficult, or the persons circumstances became more and more difficult. And in general life is just plain hard, and filled with disgusting events and circumstances that are played out on unsuspecting people and bystanders. No place in the bible does it give the reader an impression that God is going to make it easy for us to go through our time on Earth, without suffering. We are impacted by the affects of sin during our lifetime and the dung heap is going to hit the giant industrial sized fan, that will impact our life.
Last year was a year of healing, and this year is a year of restoration. I am working as a process server, and earning money, something I have not done in a while. I have been provided with enough money to buy a car I need for my job, and I have been able to give money away to those who have needed the money. I have been able to save some of the money, and I have been able to do some fun things with the money. One of my greatest pleasures in life is to take friends out to lunch or dinner. Last Sunday, I took the people in the Village out for BBQ, one of my favorite meals. I did this because I wanted to share with you some of the “good times”, because you have also shared in my “bad times” that is called life. This is my way of thanking you for being a part of the Village, and even a part of my life. I wanted you to enjoy the meal. Unfortunately, my BBQ dinner required the hard work of Emily McConnell, Corena Bloom, Steve Yeakley, and a whole list of others who helped clean up. I want to thank you for your help and rescue efforts. I like the idea that the Village meets together to worship God, and then spends time together eating a meal together that is not a “pot luck” (UCK!!) dinner, but a homemade meal or pizza.
Over the past several years, I have asked if God is sufficient enough for me, and so far, I can proudly proclaim the He is indeed.
Thank you for taking the time to eat all that BBQ and enjoying it with me. But Also Thank YOU God for letting me do this BBQ. Thank you giving me the hope that I will hear the word’s “well done good and faithful servant, you have run a good race, and for bringing me to the Cross that Christ Jesus died on, and the tomb that was empty, and for my salvation that is based on Christ Jesus’ work and life, and not on mine.

It was a rich blessing to us. Thank you. I love how God has given you the gift of generosity and kindness to others. Your offering was a sweet smell to God.
