Belonging Service: Dear Village, our yearly membership service has snuck up on us unexpectedly. There haven’t been a lot of announcements about the opportunity to Belong at the Village. In fact, the last year has been rough as we’ve lost one of our own and tried to adjust and understand what God wants us to do. But some very good suggestions have come through about how we could artistically and symbolically represent our belonging at the Village. So Rod and I have decided to do all three suggestions that we’ve received. First, on Sunday, you will receive a piece of red construction paper. Your task will be to take it home and cut out a heart or multiple hearts to put into a glass vase on Belonging Sunday. This will symbolize you giving your heart to God and this community for the year. Second, we would like you to procure a candle – namely, a glass pillar candle (costs a dollar at Walmart, but also available at Walgreen’s and other venues). We will have an example available on Sunday. We’ll put these candles with names on them in the sanctuary, and during the year if you have a prayer to offer for yourself or someone else, you can light your candle or theirs as a symbol of your prayer. Third, if you have a digital camera with a regular sized SD card, we encourage you to bring it. We’d like to take pictures of everyone at the Belonging Service and put the photos in a digital picture frame which will display these pictures in rotation during the year. This also allows us to add people who join throughout the year.
