Yesterday, I submited my class book page for my 5 year college reunion. (5 years!) In it I had to sum up my last 5 years or living in a couple paragraphs. With the creative help of Eric and Sue, this is what I came up with:
Started out teaching punk middle schoolers their Abc’s while in denial of my own post-graduate life. I myself regressed to middle school habits and became obsessed with video games and sweet rolling my pants, while being terrified of girls and dancing.
Decided to pack up and head South for the winter to San Luis Obispo. Hung out with little sister while driving moving trucks around the country with my truly alcoholic, ex-con co-worker all the while working with a friend on starting a multi-media company intent on freeing the world from sucky websites and cheesy music videos. We worked out of our garage on principal: figuring that’s how all geniuses start. Soon figured out we weren’t geniuses, but went downtown for a cup of coffee to think things over. For my quarter-life crisis I bought my dream car, a 1984 VW Vanagon campmobile. Proceeded to the ocean and watched a couple hundred sunsets before figuring that since I had this Psych degree (that I was in vain trying to pay off), I might as well get some use out of it. Because of state “budget cuts” got hired and then un-hired before I even started to work with foster care kids. Thanks Arnold.
Ended up in Tucson, AZ (whole ‘nother story, ask for details) and got hooked up with a crazy family of Cepins* who forced me to live with their son who picks out his eyebrows and has random angry out bursts. I and his Chihuahua convinced him to purchase a house with me and then later convinced him to marry his Bolivian lover. I was the best man in their wedding and had to keep the goats from eating the wedding dress. During my time in Tucson, I joined forces with a local re-hab center, recruiting addicts by traveling the West Coasts, wining and dining their therapists.
Was also conned into joining a rebel community that uses art, music, food and beer to demonstrate the Kingdom of God. As one of the rebel members of this group I hosted an exhibit of art and revolutionary Dylan-esc music at my house for a over 150 of my closest friends.
My days are now generally fills with recovering from jet-lag, drinking books while reading coffee, talking with friends, eating Mexican food with friends, walking Tucson canyons with friends and drinking beer alone.
Please say hi if you’re ever in Tucson or need just help with your coke habit.
