There is much talk about the time leading up to Easter. The Lenten season. Where we fast and prepare ourselves for the sacrifice to come. Then there is Good Friday where our lord was nailed to the cross and assassinated for OUR sins. Then there is Easter where he triumphantly rose from the dead delivering the fatal blow to death itself. Proving once and for all that it had no power and soon enough death would be no more.
As we mark that triumphant day though and as we hold fast to the promise of it, I can't help but think that we are all still waiting on Saturday.
Saturday morning, yesterday morning, Corrie received a call from her mother informing her that her Grandmother had passed away the night before.
I got to meet Grandmother Simpson twice, I am very grateful for both times. She always seemed to me to be a kind and wise woman. A Staunch democrat, someone who wouldn't stand for a lot of nonsense, but overall a very kind and wise woman.
She was very accepting of Corrie's choice of marrying me and never once made me feel as if I were not always a part of her family.
I only got to meet her twice but I will miss her, certainly not as much as Corrie, but I will miss her just the same.
It makes me reflect on others I've loved that have gone before, others that I love now that eventually will also die. It is inevitable, and while yes! We cling to the promise of Easter,m that Jesus did rise from the dead, the tomb was empty, and someday all who have ever lived will also rise from the dead, we are still left waiting on Saturday.
Grandma Simpson lived an amazingly full life, if we could all be so lucky. Still no matter how full the life is when they're gone you cannot help but notice that something is missing.
So we sit and wait on Saturday. Hoping that the rumors of Sunday are indeed true. |
