Luke 10:25-27 (New International Version)

25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

26"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

27He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[a]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself."

You know I have to admit, even when I was a Christian before this concept of loving God with all my heart, soul and strength was beyond anything that I could understand. And yet it is what we are called first to do, before we do anything else we should know how to properly love God.

Even for people outside the scope of Christianity I think that the acknowledgment of a higher power, the divine is important. Even atheists would do well to acknowledge that there is something of an order of things to the way the universe works itself out. but how does one pay reverence to that

I know some Christians who would say you love God by following his commandments and yes I think that is a part off the answer but there must be more. I mean a child can do what his parents tell him to without enjoying it or really showing love or affection to his parents right?

I love my wife, I have deep feeling for her and I show this in a multitude of ways. I care for her needs, I listen to her, I speak words of encouragement and love to her, I show her physical affection, sometimes I give her gifts for no reason at all. These are all ways I love my wife and obviously when dealing with an invisible God methouds would be different but I think the heart is in the right place

One thing that fascinates me is prayer, I know many who'll rush right into a prayer with God please this and God if you could do that. We are a needy greedy bunch aren't we? Prayer is supposed to be intimate time between you and your creator. I think putting it in proper context would show what I mean

If you red Leviticus you find that there was only one person who was allowed into the Holy of Holies which is where God dwelt with his people and that person was Aaron, the High Priest. There were certain things that he must do before entering this place.

That is how it was done in the old days and I only include it as a reference point. Because I do not believe we as a people truly understand what it is we are doing when we pray. What awesome event is taking place. If you are a Christian then you believe that Jesus's finished work on the cross bridged a gap between yourself and with God. There is no chasm between you and your God anymore you have been ushered into that most holy place in the center of the temple. You have become the high priest and you can enter that mystical place whenever you want. If that doesn't give you pause I don't know what will. Feel free to spend time in that mystical state and enjoy your God for a time.

The other day I had some things on my mind and sometimes I spend time in prayer in the car ride on the way home. But instead of yacking God's ear off I just became silent. and I looked up at the clouds and marveled at how amazing and beautiful they were. I just sat in silence as I drove and felt overcome with the presence of my God I didn't need to say a word cause I knew that God knew me and knew my heart and all was well.

Diana Robinson once said “Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God.”
God is a true and amazing lover who is waiting for the right moment to literally sweep you off your feet. I don't know if this is really what it means to Love God with all your heart, soul and strength but it's the best idea I could come up with. Entering into the most holy place and spending time there and just being.

I really think this is great. I love meditation and do it a lot. I lot more than I talk which sometimes gets me in a little trouble because I think you need a little bit of balance. But you should do Mountain Solitude. It is a perfect time to be in nature a sanctuary of sorts and just let God talk to you and love on You and love Him back by being enthralled by Him. The next one is Sunday August 15th at 8:30 we meet at the church and then go up.
