First things first, our apology for being out of communication since our move. All I can say is that we’ve been recovering at a very slow rate (concession to age) and very busy as well. It finally feels like we’re settled into our quarters at Jeff and Esther’s and can take the time to catch up.
Leading up to and including our actual leaving Tucson was the most exhausting part of our adventure. There were a few laughs too like the sight of our van pulling away with our mattress and box spring tied to the roof. I felt like a Beverly Hillbilly as I made the drive but at least we didn’t have Granny riding up there as we headed north. Jeff had a crew of guys on hand to unload the truck and now most of what we own is in their garage.
The next afternoon we went out with the Browers and looked at 4 more homes. Unfortunately, almost all of the houses for sale here are a foreclosure or a short sale which makes a purchase more challenging. We did put a contract on one of the homes and because it is a short sale are waiting for who knows how long for the bank to respond. Tomorrow we are going back for a 2nd look and taking a contractor with us. In addition to all the routine things for him to check we’d like to partition off another bedroom and bathroom if the cost if reasonable. The house is almost 4,000 sq ft on an acre of land right in the middle of civilization. The only downer is that there are only 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths. As you can imagine the rooms are very generous in size and a strategically placed wall or two will hopefully solve the lack of enough bedrooms. It will be interesting what the contractor thinks can be done. Tom and I would have the very large master suite. There is enough room for us to have a living space and bedroom and the bathroom is also very large. I’ll try to keep you updated on how things progress. We’ll probably continue to look at other homes while we wait.
After a couple of days in Phoenix we headed to Flagstaff for a week to babysit for William, now 4 and Alexander who will soon be 1 ½ . We had a wonderful time with the boys and their parents after their return from Mexico.
On Monday we returned to the Wodrichs where we have been integrating into their schedule and lives. Christian is now 5, Clara 3 and Thomas will be 2 in August. This opportunity to be is such close contact with our children and grandchildren has been a wonderful blessing. There are no regrets on our part!
Once we find the right house we will be living with our oldest and her family. Isaac is now 12, Andrew 8 and Jonathan is 5. They are also a foster family who takes in children under 5 years of age. For the next 2 weekends we will be staying in their current home to take care of our grand dogs.
To say we’re on an adventure seems to be an understatement but we’re loving everything about the journey! |
