Yesterday, Trizia and I went to El Con Mall for the day after Christmas bargains. It was great fun to hunt through Penneys and Robinson Mays but even with the sale prices we didn’t find anything we just HAD to buy. Trizia suggested that we check out Target so off we went to walk the length of the mall talking all the while. It was during this time that I shared with her that I had all but given up trying to find some pretty, feminine shoes. My feet are very long and narrow and over the years I have tried on hundreds of shoes and have found all of them lacking in the comfort department. Just in the last few weeks though I have recognized a renewed longing to find shoes that will be a symbol of the inward awakening of my femininity. God has begun to show me how I have turned from the vulnerability of allowing my heart to feel what it’s like to be cherished and loved as a woman. As a result I’ve become harder and less sure of my womanhood. Now that my heart is changing I am finding that I am longing to be ever more beautiful and to show the beauty that is emerging. This has taken many forms but the one I have been the most aware of lately is the urge to look the way I feel, and therein lays the desire for lovely shoes. As we walked into Target Trizia headed straight for the shoe department. Looking for shoes at Target wasn’t something new for me but had never proved to bring results. Within minutes she was handing me shoes that made me get excited and hopeful. Amazingly two of the pairs felt like I could wear them all day and now I own both pairs. One pair is so feminine that they are pink! I find it very interesting that those shoes were there waiting for me on the very day I voiced my heart’s desire to a friend. It seems that God was listening too and chose to show me how He also longs for my beauty to emerge even if only to adorn my feet. I believe that those shoes are definitely a gift from God.

Robert Umstott read your blog to me over the phone last night and I felt so happy for you that I just had to reply. I would add that the Lord's joy seems to be radiating from you more and more these days.
I came up with this little poetic statement for you without even trying! It's got to be God's leading:

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!
I am wondering about that second pair of shoes.

I'd like to know about that non-pink pair.

Finding women's shoes, at any price, has been a problem for me since I was a teenager. I have an unusually shaped foot (podiatrists actually say it's a deformity) and 9 or 9.5 WW is not easy for someone who doesn't want all her shoes to look like granny shoes. Usually, even if they're technically wide enough, they still don't work because the cut of the shoe doesn't correspond to my feet. Until a couple of years ago--when I started scrounging online, where you can ferret out the weirder sizes--almost all of my shoes were, by necessity, men's shoes. So NOT fun for me.

Anyway, I found my "God shoes" online a year and a half ago. http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7233044/c/3661.html
They're hardly comfortable enough for schoolteaching, but I did wear my black pair on New Year's!

You might find something you like on this website, Mary Kay, although not as cheaply as at Target ;-) Shipping is included in the price (and here's the important part), including return shipping if the shoes don't fit.
