Attention ladies. Emily McConnell and I are starting a book club. I hadn't realized until time to write this blog that we never even considered giving it a name so I guess Book Club will have to do. (Oops!) At least for now.

At any rate here are the details:

Our first meeting will be on Friday, October the 7th. We forgot to decide on the time so will let you know tomorrow! (Second oops!) This book club will meet once a month with December being skipped entirely.

Some things that we want to emphasize are; We will not be doing "self-help" or non-fiction books, this is not going to be a class. We'll ask everyone involved for suggestions for the next months pick but no one is required to read the book to join in the discussion. If you just couldn't get into it, you can hear what everyone else has to say and enjoy a great meal and fantastic company. We are going to direct the discussions with a mind towards God and religion. I'm not sure how to explain it, Emily said the words just right but I've forgotten them. If only it had been on an email! (Oops Three!) Maybe Emily will be so kind as to add to this blog with the idea of the focus.

The Salt Garden by Cindy McCormick Martinusen is the first book chosen. Thank you Susan Park for the suggestion! Emily checked and there are several copies in various libraries and there is also a book-on-tape version.

There will be a wonderful Chicken Corn Chowder provided as well as coffee, tea and plenty of water. If you would like to bring something, our suggestions would be a nice bread or dessert.

We will meet at my house (Krysti's) and I am more then happy to provide direction to anyone who needs it. My email address and phone number are in the Village directory so just contact me.

I think I've mentioned all the stuff you need to know (with the exceptions of my oops's and I hope to have that info. for you tomorrow). We are both excited to offer this and will look forward to welcoming you on October the 7th!

So I've officially read the book for the book club this Friday! My thoughts on it will be revealed then...(insert suspenseful music)what will I think? I'm sure the author is on pins and needles, waiting breathlessly.

There's a lot going on this weekend! And the next and the next! We're in the October - December fest-time..whoo hoo! I'm kinda excited this year rather than feeling overwhelmed. Party on!

So as a reminder, this particular entertainment is Mexican Chicken Chowder and book discussion from 6:30 to 8-ish. Feel free to stop by even if you can't make it for the whole thing.

We'll be choosing the book for next month as a group. Bring ideas! Krysti has found an interesting-looking book that follows the life a young girl in Iraq...and remember, although we hope to see God in the human condition through stories, the books don't need to be "Christian" books. In fact, there's probably a limit to how many of those we can handle. The main goal is to stay away from non-fiction "study" type books and stay more in the "story" realm.

Emily.
